Whirlpool Front-Load Washer Error Code Reference
Whirlpool front-load washer error codes vary by model and control platform. The following are common codes found on many Whirlpool front-load washing machines.
Always verify the washer's complete model number before replacing a component or performing advanced diagnostic procedures.
| Error Code | Common Meaning | What to Check |
|---|---|---|
| LOC / LC | Control Lock activated | Turn off Control Lock. This display is not necessarily an appliance fault. |
| F0 E1 / rL | Load detected during Clean Washer cycle | Remove items from the drum and restart the Clean Washer cycle. |
| F0 E2 / Sd / Sud | Excessive suds | Use HE detergent. Check detergent quantity and possible drain restrictions. |
| F1 E1 | Main electronic control fault | Check electronic control board, connections and wiring. |
| F1 E2 | Motor/control-related fault | Check motor control, motor wiring and main control. |
| F20 / FH | Water inlet problem | Check water faucets, inlet screens, hoses and water inlet valves. |

| F3 E1 | Water-level/pressure sensing fault | Check pressure system, pressure sensor and wiring. |
| F3 E2 | Temperature sensing fault | Check thermistor and associated wiring. |
| F5 E1 | Door-switch problem | Inspect washer door, door switch and wiring. |
| F5 E2 | Door not locking properly | Check door lock, obstruction and wiring. |
| F5 E3 | Door unlock problem | Inspect door-lock mechanism, wiring and electronic control. |
| F7 E1 | Motor speed sensing error | Check load, shipping bolts and motor/drive system. |
| F8 E1 / Lo FL | Low or no incoming water | Check water supply, hoses, inlet screens and water valves. |
| F8 E2 | Dispenser-system problem | Check detergent drawer, cartridge and dispenser system. |
| F9 E1 | Long drain | Check drain hose, drain pump, restrictions and excessive suds. |
| PF | Power failure | Check incoming electrical power or recent power interruption. |
F9 E1 / F21 / F02 — Long Drain
A long-drain error does not automatically mean that the drain pump has failed.
Check the complete drain path:
Pump Filter → Drain Pump → Drain Hose → Household Drain
Excessive detergent or suds can also interfere with normal draining on some Whirlpool front-load washers.
F8 E1 / Lo FL — Low or No Water
Check that both household water faucets are completely open.
Inspect the hot and cold inlet hoses for kinks and check the inlet-valve screens for restrictions.
If adequate household water pressure is available but the washer still does not fill correctly, further diagnosis of the inlet valves, wiring and control system may be required.
Important for Diagnosis
Do not replace a component based only on a generic error-code definition.
Whirlpool uses different electronic control platforms across its front-load washer families. Error-code definitions, component specifications and diagnostic procedures can vary by model.
Always obtain the complete model number before performing component tests or ordering replacement parts.
Where Is the Whirlpool Washer Model Number?
On many Whirlpool front-load washers, the model and serial number label can be found around the washer door opening or cabinet frame.
Record the complete model number, including the final revision digits when present.
