Range & Oven CodesUnderstanding GE Appliance Error Codes
An error code is generated when an appliance's electronic control detects an operating condition outside its expected range. The code helps identify the system that needs diagnosis, but it does not necessarily identify the failed component.
| Problem Area | Possible Components | Basic Inspection |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature | Thermistor, temperature sensor, heater or electronic control | Check sensor connections, wiring and temperature readings. |
| Water Fill | Water valve, pressure sensor, flow system or control | Verify water supply, hoses, screens and electrical connections. |
| Drain | Drain pump, filter, hose, pressure system or control | Check for restrictions before replacing the pump. |
| Door / Lid | Door switch, lid switch, latch or lock assembly | Inspect the latch, wiring and mechanical alignment. |
| Motor | Motor, inverter, speed sensor, wiring or electronic control | Inspect connectors, resistance and mechanical movement. |
| Communication | Main control, user interface, inverter or wiring harness | Check connectors and wiring before replacing electronic controls. |
Before Replacing a Part
Do not replace a component based only on an error code. Inspect the appliance and verify the code using technical information appropriate for the exact GE model.
A wiring problem, loose connector, blocked drain, restricted airflow, poor water supply or another component can sometimes produce a code associated with a different system.
Record the complete model number, serial number and displayed error code before disconnecting power.
